So far, out of all the body systems (except GI, of course), I’m finding the kidneys pretty incredible. We’ve studied some amazing things, but the past week we’ve been discussing renal, and I’ve found my jaw dropping more than any other day.
The kidneys are pretty special little buggers, and I’m super thankful they work well in me. I don’t really know a whole lot yet about what it takes to be a dialysis nurse, but it’s one of the careers that has jumped out at me this semester. Not sure why, but the kidneys are just so fascinating and so important, too. Good times.
Can I blunt percuss for CVA tenderness next time I see you?
Showoff.
The kidneys are pretty incredible. I got to accompany one of my patients to inpatient dialysis once and I went home pretty dumbfounded about how it all works. That would be an awesome and challenging specialty!
You got to accompany one of your patients to that? I guess, since my shift is 2-10, all my patients are already done their testing. Maybe once I have morning clinicals, I’ll go with them to things, too. Cool!
I completely agree. Looove the kidneys! Definitely my favorite section in A&P, and the minute I was reunited with the word “nephron” in nursing school I got goosebumps.
I wonder why so many people think they’re cool? Maybe because they’re awesome filtering machines!
